Netrouting provides a broad catalogue of Linux and Windows images that you can deploy directly from the Client Area using the Provision feature. You can also request custom installs. This article explains the supported options, how to provision, and our reinstall/licensing policies.

Available OS Families (Prebuilt Images)

  • Linux
    • Ubuntu LTS (current supported LTS releases)
    • Debian (current stable and prior stable)
    • AlmaLinux (enterprise replacement for CentOS)
    • Rocky Linux (enterprise replacement for CentOS)
    • Proxmox VE (virtualization platform)
    • VyOS (routing/firewall)
  • Windows Server
    • Windows Server (current supported releases)
    • Licensing: Bring Your Own License (BYOL) unless you build a managed or custom IaaS solution with our sales team.
  • Network/Carrier Appliances (on request)
    • Nokia VSR (virtualized router image)
    • Other vendor images upon review

Provisioning from the Client Area

  • Log in to the Netrouting Client Area and open your server.
  • Select Provision to launch the OS installer.
  • Choose the image (Linux/Windows/Proxmox) and confirm.
  • Follow any on‑screen prompts (disk layout, SSH key, password).
  • Provisioning runs unattended and reboots to your new OS when complete.

Manual Reinstalls & Custom Installs

  • Custom installs: €35 per install (e.g., non‑catalog OS, custom partitioning, vendor ISO).
  • Manual reinstall by Netrouting: first one is free (if you’re not using the Client Area Provision feature); subsequent manual reinstalls are €35 each.
  • You can always avoid fees by using the self‑service Provision workflow in the Client Area.

Windows Licensing (BYOL)

  • Windows Server is offered on a Bring Your Own License (BYOL) basis.
  • If you prefer Netrouting‑managed licensing, talk to sales about a managed or custom IaaS solution.

Recommendations & Notes

  • UEFI & RAID: If you need specific disk layouts (software RAID, LVM, ZFS), request a custom install or use an image/installer that supports your desired layout.
  • Networking: Our images ship with sensible defaults. If you plan to bond ports (e.g., 2×10G), see: Configuring Bonding on Ubuntu with Netplan.
  • Virtualization: Choose Proxmox VE if you intend to run multiple VMs/containers on a single host.
  • Routing/Gateway: Use VyOS (and on request Nokia VSR) if you need an on‑box router/firewall with BGP/EVPN features.
  • Security: Always add SSH keys during provisioning (where supported) and disable password logins post‑install.

How to Request a Custom Install

  • Open a ticket with the OS/version you want, any special partitioning, and whether you’ll supply an ISO.
  • Confirm the €35 fee and your preferred maintenance window.
  • We’ll mount the media, perform the install, and hand the server back for your validation.
