Every Netrouting bare-metal server can be installed, and reinstalled as often as you like, from the Reinstall tab in the Amóni portal, with no ticket and no charge. This page lists what is on offer, explains how a reinstall runs, and covers the cases that are not self-service: licensed systems and custom installs from your own media.
The images
The same list is offered at checkout (the Operating System option) and on the Reinstall tab of a running server. Versions move on as distributions release; the tab always shows the current set. As of this writing:

Every Linux image installs unattended and is ready with SSH open and your stored keys in place. Routing appliances (VyOS, Nokia VSR) and other vendor images are not in the list; ask sales.
Reinstalling from the portal
Open the server under Servers, then the Reinstall tab. Pick the image, set the hostname, choose whether to set a root password or have one generated, choose a disk layout (the image default, one of our RAID and single-disk layouts, or one you saved under Install Profiles), tick any stored SSH keys and post-install scripts, and confirm. The server reboots into the installer and comes back on the new system, usually in 10 to 20 minutes. Everything on the disks is erased. Reinstalls are free and unlimited. If the installer cannot reach the server or a reinstall fails, open a ticket and we look at the machine; that is also free.
Licensing
- Windows Server is installed by us and licensed by you (bring your own license). You activate it with your own key after the install. If you would rather have the license on the invoice, ask sales about a managed configuration.
- VMware ESXi follows the same rule: we install it, you license it.
- CloudLinux, cPanel, Plesk and similar are licensed separately; the image installs the base system only.
- Everything else in the list is free software and costs nothing to install or run.
Custom installs
Anything not in the list, or a layout the installer cannot produce, is a custom install. Three routes, from most to least self-service:
- Do it yourself over the console. Attach your installer image as virtual media through the server's management interface and boot from it. The steps are in open the remote console. Free, and you keep full control of partitioning and packages.
- Custom disk layout on a standard image. Save a layout under Install Profiles once (software RAID, LVM, ZFS, partition sizes) and pick it on the Reinstall tab. Also free.
- Ask us to do it. Open a ticket with the operating system and version, the partitioning you want, and whether you supply the ISO. We agree a maintenance window, mount the media, perform the install and hand the server back for your checks. This carries a fee per install; the ticket confirms the amount before we start. A manual reinstall of a standard image is free the first time and carries the same fee afterwards, which is why the Reinstall tab exists.
Which one to pick
- Web hosting with a control panel: AlmaLinux 9 or Rocky Linux 9, then install cPanel or Plesk on it.
- General servers, containers, most applications: Ubuntu 24.04 LTS or Debian 12. Both get five years of updates.
- Several virtual machines on one box: Proxmox VE 8 or 9. Add a private network and a second server later for a cluster.
- Windows applications: Windows Server 2022 Standard, with your license key ready.
- Two ports bonded: any Linux image, then follow configuring bonding on Ubuntu with Netplan and ask us for the port-channel on the switch.
Questions we get
- Can I keep my data across a reinstall? No. A reinstall wipes every disk in the layout. Copy data off first, from rescue mode if the system no longer boots.
- Where is the root password? Shown once on the Reinstall tab when generated, and sent by email. Better: store an SSH key and skip passwords; see SSH keys on Netrouting.
- Is the image up to date? Images are refreshed regularly, but run the distribution's update command right after the install anyway.
- Can I switch from Linux to Windows later? Yes, it is a reinstall like any other. Have your license key ready before you start.
- Do cloud instances use the same list? No; cloud instances have their own template list (Ubuntu, Debian, AlmaLinux, Rocky, CentOS Stream, FreeBSD) shown on the Rebuild tab.
